  • I’m writing this on December 5. I’m sitting at my desk, at about 7:40 AM, the sun has just risen in the east-southeast, as it does at this time of year when the sun's arc is short. A straight shaft of sunlight pierces the window to my left and gently warms me on this cold winter morning.
